Sculpted Silence - Basketball

$150.00

Sculpted Silence is a contemplative body of sculptural work that transforms recycled basketballs into quiet monuments of stillness. Encased in layers of plaster, each piece undergoes a deliberate act of preservation and erasure — suspended between its former identity and a newly constructed presence.

Once defined by movement, impact, rhythm, and sound, the basketball becomes permanently immobilized. The application of plaster silences the object entirely: it can no longer bounce, perform, or fulfill the function for which it was created. What remains is the trace of its history — a muted form carrying the memory of motion within an imposed state of calm.

The collection explores the tension between utility and obsolescence, energy and restraint, play and permanence. Through this process of transformation, familiar materials are elevated into refined sculptural compositions that challenge our emotional relationship with everyday objects. The works evoke a sense of quiet luxury through texture, weight, and minimalism, revealing beauty in stillness and absence.

At once raw and sophisticated, the surfaces preserve subtle imperfections and gestures from both the original object and the hand-applied plaster, creating pieces that feel archaeological, intimate, and timeless. The monochromatic finish further removes the objects from their previous cultural associations, allowing form, silhouette, and materiality to take precedence.

Details:

  • Limited edition artwork

  • Medium: Acrylic, plaster

  • Surface: Rubber (harvested from a second hand artefact)

  • Size: 240mm X 240mm X 240mm

  • Signed by the artist: Yes

  • Ready to place : Yes

  • Certificate of authenticity : Yes

Sculpted Silence invites viewers into a meditative encounter with objects that have been stripped of their voice and purpose, yet paradoxically gain a new presence through silence. The collection becomes a reflection on transformation itself — on what is lost when function disappears, and what unexpected beauty can emerge in its place.

Because each artwork is handmade, every piece is unique and may differ slightly from the photos.

Each edition is conceived as a tonal philosophy:

  • Ivory — a refined mineral white, echoing alabaster and bleached limestone. It carries a sense of quiet opulence, like museum plaster casts or ancient relics reinterpreted in contemporary form.

  • Ebony — a deep, absorptive black finish where the sculptural surface emerges only under grazing light. It suggests lacquered obsidian and architectural voids, emphasizing depth over visibility.
