Sculpted Silence - Record

$50.00

Sculpted Silence transforms the vinyl record into a muted sculptural form, distancing it from its original role as a vessel for sound and memory. Through the application of plaster, an object created to be played, heard, and experienced becomes permanently silent — preserved physically while stripped of its primary function.

Once defined by rhythm, emotion, and sonic expression, the vinyl is immobilized within a hardened surface that interrupts its ability to rotate, resonate, or produce music. What remains is the physical presence of the object itself: its circular form, grooves, and cultural familiarity suspended in stillness.

The work reflects on the fragility of memory and the transformation of objects through time. By obscuring and preserving the record simultaneously, the piece creates a tension between permanence and disappearance, silence and resonance. The plaster conceals portions of the surface while allowing traces of the original material to emerge beneath, revealing fragments of a past identity.

Reduced to form, texture, and materiality, the vinyl becomes detached from entertainment and consumption, entering a more contemplative space. The monochromatic surface removes visual distraction and shifts attention toward the object’s sculptural qualities — its weight, symmetry, and quiet presence.

Details:

  • Limited edition artwork

  • Medium: Acrylic, plaster

  • Surface: Plastic (recycled second hand artefact)

  • Size: 300mm X 300mm X 2mm

  • Signed by the artist: Yes

  • Ready to place : Yes

  • Certificate of authenticity : Yes

Through this act of interruption, Sculpted Silence explores how meaning changes when sound is removed from an object created entirely to carry it. The familiar becomes distant, and the once audible is transformed into something meditative, permanent, and profoundly still.

Each edition is conceived as a tonal philosophy:

  • Ivory — a refined mineral white, echoing alabaster and bleached limestone. It carries a sense of quiet opulence, like museum plaster casts or ancient relics reinterpreted in contemporary form.

  • Ebony — a deep, absorptive black finish where the sculptural surface emerges only under grazing light. It suggests lacquered obsidian and architectural voids, emphasizing depth over visibility.

Warning
Because each artwork is handmade, every piece is unique and may differ slightly from the photos.
